Walter Foster

FOSTER,
Walter N. Sr. beloved husband of the late Rhea Mae Foster (nee Baumann). Loving father of Walter (Yvonne) Foster Jr. and Barbara Anne Foster. Grandfather of John Henry Foster and uncle of Vallerie and Kurt Baumann. Recruited into the Navy in 1941 as a Chief Petty Officer and commissioned in 1942 to the rank of Ensign, where he was assigned to Amphibious Forces. He was engaged in the North African Campaign Assault, landing of American Forces on Green Beach at Licata, Sicily and Salerno, Italy. Military decorations include: Combat Action Ribbon, American Defense, European Defense, Naval Reserve, Armed Forces Reserve, National Defense, Expert Rifle, Expert Pistol and 3 Purple Hearts. He retired after 33 years of service, as a Naval Officer with the rank of Captain USNR. A Graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors and Masters Degree, a Doctorate of Education Degree from Colombia University and a JD Degree from the Chase College of Law. Member of the Cincinnati Bar Association and served as Referee of the Hamilton Co. Common Pleas Court and Domestic Relations Court until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Post 199, VFW Post 2548, Amvets Post 1963, Military Order of Purple Hearts Chapter 3620 and The Naval Reserve Assn. He was active in the Antique Car Club, a wooden boat boater and member of the Board of Trustees of the Joseph House in Cincinnati. Walter passed Wednesday October 12, 2011 at the age of 94. Friends are invited to a visitation Monday October 17th from 6-8 PM at the Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home 2880 Boudinot at Queen City Avenue and funeral service Tuesday 10 AM at the funeral home.
