Anestis John Condorodis, lovingly called “Irish,” lived a full life, showering everyone he met with warmth, humor and friendliness. After driving himself to the hospital, he remained vibrant, interacting with friends, family and those caring for him, until his sudden passing. He fell asleep in the Lord on November 19, 2024 at the age of 91.
Born April 13, 1933, Irish was a native Cincinnatian through and through. As the middle son of his Greek immigrant parents, John and Smaro Condorodis, he was born at home in the family’s apartment in Over-the-Rhine. He graduated from Western Hills High School in the class of 1951 and was inducted into the Western Hills Hall of Fame in 2016 for his athletic accomplishments in football and other sports.
Irish received his nickname while playing football at the University of Cincinnati on a full athletic scholarship, when Head Football Coach Sid Gillman read his name on the roster and said, “That’s a good Irish name.” He graduated from U.C. with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1956 and later his MBA. While at U.C. and throughout his thriving career as a commercial real estate agent, he was elected to many offices and positions of leadership. Most recently, he served on the Board of Governors of the Commercial Real Estate Council of Greater Cincinnati.
Over the years, Irish maintained strong ties with the Greek community as a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, where he volunteered for decades at the Panegyri Greek Festival, a member of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) and Over Fifty Club. He was passionate about playing softball and snow skiing, served as president of the Cincinnati Ski Club and skiing into his 80s.
Irish regularly attended UC Bearcat games and was a member of the University of Cincinnati’s McMicken Tower Society and George Smith Society. He was a member of Sigma Sigma and the Masonic Lodge. He also enjoyed sporting and performing art events, Sigma Chi alumni functions, vacationing with family at Higgins Lake, Michigan and spending time at his Florida condo.
Irish was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Janeen Dee (nee Greer) Condorodis, and his brother Constandinos “Gus” (Carolyn) Condorodis, MD. He is survived by his older Brother Peter (late Peggy) Condorodis, Nieces and Goddaughters, Tamara (John Sullivan, MD) Sullivan, Meghan (Chris) Shimala. Nieces, Mary Condorodis of Jacksonville, FL, Melanie (David) Snell and Nephews, John (Bonnie) Condorodis of Ormond Beach, FL, George (Aline) Condorodis of Orlando, FL, Christopher “CJ” (Amy) Condorodis, MD, Goddaughters, Anthi (Randy) Jerow of Racine, WI, and Katie Todd of Lexington, KY. Also survived by many dear great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
