As his younger brother I would like to speak on behalf of the entire family.

Bruce was so many things to so many people. A husband to be cherished, a son to be proud of, a brother to look up to and a Father to be loved and a great friend to many people all over the country.

He wasn’t always physically around us, but I know that he thought of us often.

He had a playful spirit and a very generous heart. There were many times when we were far apart for many years but when we would speak on the phone or see each other, time and distance would melt away. We would laugh at ourselves and how goofy we use to be while realizing that we still had that childishness as adults.

When we were very young Bruce use to play rough games with me that usually ended up with him holding me down and smacking me in the face with my own hand, repeatedly asking me ….” why are you hitting yourself? “  My universal answer was always a loud cry out for our mother to come and rescue me.  At the time all I thought was that he hated me and was just being mean. But looking back I now see that Bruce was trying to toughen me up and help me get ready to deal with the unfair things that life will inevitably throw my way.

Now life has dealt us one of its hardest and  permanent lessons. The loss of the man that tried so hard to teach me how to deal with it, is gone….and I am saddened beyond my own capacities.

Of my brother I would like to say this. He had a warriors sense of valor and the heart of a poet. He was not a perfect man, but who is?  I love him and I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.  Bruce….I will toast to your life, and will carry you with me in my heart.

Jim
