Helen B. (nee Bender), beloved wife of the late John P. Overhuls, loving mother of Carolyn Pappas, Julie (Mark) Weddle, Gail Collins and Karen Overhuls, cherished grandmother of five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and dear sister of the late Anne Smith and the late Jean Boyers. The three sisters were affectionately called "the Bender girls" by their family well into their 80's. She is also survived by a loving extended family and many friends, including Tammy Flaig, her special caregiver, and Lois Bockhorst and Evelyn Busam, her good neighbors for many years. Helen retired as an elementary school teacher from the Cincinnati public schools after 30 years. Late in her life she was reunited with a special student, Andrea Cheng, now a children's author who was inspired to begin writing by her former third grade teacher. Helen attended the University of Kansas and the University of Cincinnati and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.Thursday, February 7, 2013. Age 82 years. The family will celebrate her life at a memorial service on Thursday, May 9th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home, 2880 Boudinot Ave., 45238, with burial of cremated remains to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
