Longtime Reds Beat Reporter John Fay died on August 9, 2023 at his home. Many friends from Cincinnati and across the world of Major League Baseball have known John to be a serious reporter and lover of the game. He follows his beloved wife Laura Fay who passed away last January.

John was born into a westside family of 7 siblings starting with the late Mary Ann Heimbrock (Howard), Patricia Helbling (Bob), Michael Fay (Fay Martin), Tim Fay (Jean). He is survived by his sisters Kathy Benetka (Joe), and Peggy Fleming (Ed), as well as many nieces and nephews. His late parents were Mary Grace Fay and Walter “Chappy” Fay. Laura, his lifelong friend and wife of 22 years, died in January after a long battle with breast cancer. Her large family adopted John as one of their own and shared many great memories and times together. Laura’s siblings are Christine Soto (Ray) and Paula Gruber (Steve) and brothers Joseph Carvitti (Pam) and Vince Carvitti (Donna). John and Laura Fay were the beloved Uncle and Aunt to dozens of nieces and nephews as well as great nephews and nieces.  

In support of John and In honor of Real Men Wear Pink the family request that everyone in attendance wear something pink.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Real Men Wear Pink, an American Cancer Society charity program that John was involved with since 2017. This year, John is listed as a “National Top Ten” among hundreds of Campaign Ambassadors nationwide.  

Celebration of Life for John G. Fay

Visitation will be held on August 18, 2023 at the Dalbert, Woodruff, and Isenogle Funeral Home at 2880 Boudinot Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45238 from 3:00pm-5:00pm. A Catholic Mass will be held after at 5:30pm at St. William at 4108 W 8th St, Cincinnati, OH 45205
