Mattie Newman, 17, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on March 15, 2025, alongside her devoted and loving mother, Melissa Darby. Born on February 9, 2008, Mattie brought light and joy to everyone she encountered from the very beginning. A dedicated student at Riverview East Academy, Mattie ranked third in her class and was a natural-born leader. She co-captained the volleyball team and co-founded both the Crochet Club and Book Club, sharing her passions and creating welcoming spaces for her classmates. Mattie was also an active member of the Girls to Woman Club, where she encouraged and inspired her peers. Mattie would do anything she could to help others, and her loving spirit was matched by an unwavering determination. When she set goals for herself, she met them with grace and perseverance. Known for her love of learning and helping others, Mattie pursued healthcare studies and had a deep love for reading. Her determination and work ethic shone through, as she began working at the age of 15, balancing her responsibilities with inspiring dedication. Her leadership, compassion, and love left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Mattie leaves behind a loving family who cherished every moment with her. She is survived by her devoted and loving father, Mathew Newman, and her cherished sister, Keelie Lewis. She is also survived by her loving grandparents, Frank Newman, Lynne Halpin, Glenda Bagwell, and James Bagwell; her aunts and uncles, Donald Newman (Regina), Sean Newman, Michael Newman (Meghan), and Colleen Newman (Bill Barber); as well as many cousins, second cousins, and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Mattie is now reunited in peace with her mother, Melissa Darby, and other beloved family members who preceded her in death, including her Aunt Wendi Bryan, Uncle Dennis Staab, and great-grandmother Betty L. Evans.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation Monday April 14th from 4-8 PM and a Funeral Service on Tuesday April 15th at 11 AM, all at the Dalbert Woodruff and Isenogle Funeral Home 2880 Boudinot Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio 45238.
