Judge Melvin G.. dedicated husband for 68 years to his beloved wife Mabel (nee Fisher); father of Barbara R. Steers, James M. (Jeanne) Rueger, and the late Beverly J. Rueger; grandfather of Kellie (Eric) Vogelpohl, Jamie Rueger, Jodie Rueger and Julie Rueger; great grandfather to Kellie and Eric's four children, Tyler, Emily, Nathan and Abbey; brother of the late Harris C. Rueger, and Walter E. (Marilyn) Rueger; died peacefully Wednesday, April 21st, after a wonderful and productive life of nearly 93 years. Judge Rueger retired from the bench in 1991 after nearly 50 years of public service that included service in and as the prosecuting attorney of Hamilton County, as a judge on the Common Pleas bench, and finally for 18 years as Probate judge. He graduated from Western Hills High School in 1935, and went to Chase Commerce School, and then to their law school, finishing with his law degree, before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Among his many accomplishments and honors was that he was instrumental in the creation of Delhi Park, of which he was most proud of, was a 32nd degree Mason, a charter member and also a member of Miami View Golf Club's Hall of Fame, was honored with the Maroon Award from Western Hills High School, as an outstanding graduate, and had the auditorium at Miami Whitewater Park named after him for his commitment to the parks. He also taught law at Chase Law School, and was an active member of Shiloh Methodist Church in Delhi. Many other awards and honors were bestowed upon him, but his love and commitment to his family, friends, and community is what was important to him, and that will be his lasting legacy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Cincinnati, and Shiloh Methodist Church.Visitation will be held at the Dalbert Funeral Home on Boudinot Ave. from 4pm to 8pm Friday, April 23rd. Funeral service will be held at Shiloh Methodist Church in Delhi, Saturday, April 24th at 10am.
