Shirley Ann Freytag, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, was born on August 21, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, in Dillsboro, Indiana, leaving a legacy of warmth, joy, and cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Shirley was a beacon of kindness. She forged friendships easily, her bright smile touching the lives of those around her. Her love for music, especially rock and roll, resonated deeply with her spirit and fueled her enthusiasm for life. She had a particular fondness for poodle skirts and scarves, which perfectly complemented her vibrant personality.
One of the sweetest memories shared by those who loved her was the imagery of her carrying her little sister, Pauline, on her back when she was barefooted on the hot sidewalks during long walks to the store—a representation of the enduring love and care she inspired in others. Shirley had a heart that extended its embrace to the many birds she delighted in feeding, as well as to her dear dog, Brownie, and her extensive collection of stuffed animals, which she treasured dearly. Her bedroom was a meticulously kept sanctuary where each stuffed animal had its rightful place, a testament to her pride in maintaining an organized and tidy space.
Her proudest accomplishments included remembering the birthdays of family and friends without fail, sending heartfelt cards to celebrate those special milestones, and ensuring every Christmas was adorned with thoughtful presents for everyone in her family. This thoughtful spirit left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to receive her kindness.
In her final days, Shirley's ability to find joy was unwavering. Even as she faced the challenges of her illness, she would still look at those around her and smile, reflecting a lifetime of resilience and love.
Shirley is survived by her loving brother, Edward Freytag Jr., and her dear sister, Pauline Doan. She will also be remembered fondly by her nephews, Dewey Ingle Jr. and Curry Ingle Sr., and her nieces, Maggie Pilkerton, Jackie Phelps, Valery Hornberger, Cheryl Vogelsang, Jill Meyer, and Joyce Pindell.
She was preceded in death by her cherished sister, Ruth Ingle, and her beloved niece, Annetta Brown.
As we reflect on Shirley’s life, we celebrate a woman who filled our lives with laughter, love, and vibrant memories. Her spirit will forever remain in the melodies of rock and roll, the joy of family gatherings, and in the hearts of everyone she touched.
