William H. Dunnett

William H. Dunnett, (Bill), passed away on January 26, 2025, at Chesterwood Village in West Chester, OH. He was born on August 24, 1926, in Hancock, Wisconsin. Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II, based at the Naval hospital in San Diego, CA. He also played French horn there in the naval band, welcoming troops back home from the war.

Bill spent the first 23 years of his professional career in the Personnel Department of the Department of the Army, moving from Baraboo, WI, to Joliet, IL, to Cincinnati, OH, and then to Cleveland, OH. In 1970 he returned to his beloved Cincinnati to become the Personnel Director at the IRS in Covington, KY, retiring in 1982. His strong work ethic and integrity were greatly admired by the people who worked with him.

In his personal life, he was known for his impeccable style, always a dapperly dressed man. Bill was not only devoted to his family but also nurtured a passion for Barbershop music. He loved to sing and took great pleasure in singing in Barbershop quartets and directing a NKY Barbershop chorus, sharing his love of music with others. He sang in various quartets from his college days until his 90th birthday. He was a lifetime member of SPEBSQSA, now the Barbershop Harmony Society, the country's largest organization of Barbershop choruses and quartets. In 1975 Bill was asked to organize and direct a Federal Bicentennial Chorus to celebrate the nation's 200th birthday. The chorus of 60 strong performed at 34 events throughout greater Cincinnati during the summer of 1976.

Bill resided for the past 20 years at Chesterwood Retirement Village in West Chester, Ohio. For the last five years he was in Assisted Living there. The family thanks all the staff for their kindness and support over the years.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his parents, Gilbert and Mary Dunnett, his brother Gene Dunnett, and his sister Lorna Albright, and his beloved cat Cindy. He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn (Mark) Meckes of West Chester, Ohio, and Sandy (Larry) Batoki of Bowling Green, Ohio. He was a loving grandfather to Mark (the late Elizabeth) Meckes of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Michael Meckes of Bloomington, Indiana. Additionally, he is survived by his great-grandchildren, Juliette and Peter Meckes, who reside in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He was also the favorite uncle of several nieces and nephews.
